Ahh, one of my favorite (and luckiest) photos from this amazing trip.
After a splendid stay exploring Hrifunes, Skaftafell, Vatnajökull, and Kirkjubæjarklaustur and visiting and making new friends, I made my way toward the Highlands. Along a rural interior road on the drive north, 50 yards ahead I was stunned to see these beautiful Icelandic horses on both sides of the road trotting along in near single file and being guided/herded by two young and beautiful Icelandic women on their own horses.
With little room on the road shoulder to pull over, I was fortunate to find a narrow gravel pull-out. And with little time to act, I literally jumped out of the jeep, pulled out my camera (with an attached 28mm manual focus lens), and I just starting photographing. I had no time to switch lenses. I had no time to even manually focus. I just composed and pressed the shutter and got off three exposures. Because of the wide angle view, the images were all in reasonably good focus.
As the horses passed, I shouted, 'Góðan daginn!', to the beautiful woman on the horse, and she smiled and waved at me! Sigh . . . :-)
