September 2013
I made this photograph during a magnificent hike through the Laugahraun lava field in Landmannalaugar, Iceland in the uninhabited Highlands. In my humble opinion, this is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
Although the lighting was certainly not the best for photographs that day, the weather was *perfect* for hiking. That was about as sunny and warm (a balmy 66 F,19 C!) as it ever gets in Iceland.
In the distance can be seen the iconic and colorful rhyolite volcano, Mt. Brennisteinsalda. About 2 hours following this snapshot, I was standing atop the peak with many other hikers admiring the spectacular views in all directions.
