This exposure is one of my personal favorites from my brief, yet magnificent, exploration of Olympic National Park. The Hoh Rain Forest is unlike anything I’ve ever before witnessed. It’s like something out of Middle Earth. The scenery and the mood are stunningly beautiful, yet surreal.

As I came across this site on my hike, I promptly stopped myself in my tracks and stared in awe of it. It was mesmerizing. I then dropped my pack, knelt down, and admired it a little longer. It was so quiet and peaceful. There were no others ahead of me or behind me. I sensed the reverberating sounds of mosquitos circling and the first rays of sunshine permeating the clouds and dense trees. I can only imagine that this pristine forest is beautiful at any time of the year. Following a fresh rain from the day before mixed in with a touch of contrasty backlighting, the greens of the moss laden maples and of the surrounding foliage just *popped*.

Here, I chose Velvia with the hope of creating the best rendition from my bag of tools. However, upon studying this slide and vividly recollecting what I witnessed just weeks before with my own eyes, even this photograph does not do it justice. You just have to see it for yourself. :-)
