Series: 1 of 2
Between Christmas Day and New Year's Day, in my own way of celebrating nature and the dawn of a new year, I customarily make an early morning hike through Torrey Pines to witness the sun bathe the majestic and pristine canyons here. Once again, I descended upon my favorite hiking trail and headed (with my pack, camera, and film) to one of my personal favorite subjects.
Though I've photographed this site a plethora of times, the peaceful and uplifting mood never wanes, and the lighting is always different. I'm convinced I end up capturing a unique set of textures and tones on each visit.
The air was cold and crisp. The scent of coastal sage and of the Torrey Pine permeated the air. The crashing tide reverberated throughout the canyons. With the mood set, all senses stimulated, and the sunrise just minutes away, I paused to reflect on life and nature and what lies ahead before opening the shutter. 2014 is going to be a good year. :-)
